Vegan on a Budget

While the vegan lifestyle tends to be less expensive than a traditional one, for some it’s just not cheap enough. Everybody needs a good bargain once in a while. Lucky for you, I am the Queen of Cheap and I am here to spread my wealth of knowledge.

Living on a strict budget can be frustrating, but it is important to not forget your day to day essentials and not concentrate so much on the “stuff” that you think we need. Is it necessary for you to have 27 pairs of “eco-friendly” denim? (Is it even “eco-friendly” to have 27 of anything?) Do you really need a shade of eye shadow to match each pair of shoes you own? How about the hamburger phone? Sure, Juno was cool, but you don’t even have a land line! The box of clementines that are rotting away in your fridge because you couldn’t pass up such a stupendous deal? That was probably a bad idea.
At a certain point, you must be one with the fact that you don’t really need all that much. But a pair of killer faux leather pumps once in a while won’t hurt. I promise. (more…)

Heaven in Creamy Dessert Form <3

Sorry to have two food posts in a row, but I just wanted to briefly share my love for this amazing treat that I have just discovered: Turtle Mountain’s Purely Decadent Dairy Free Ice Cream made from Coconut Milk!!!! This yummy dessert was a sweet relief in a vegan world overloaded with soy everything. I have only tried the Mint-chocolate chip version, but the others look delicious as well. Shall I list the reasons why I love this oh so much? Okay then..

  1. You can taste the coconut flavor, but it is not overpowering and it compliments the other flavors perfectly.
  2. Mostly organic.
  3. Sweetened with agave.
  4. Contains only 11 ingredients including the chocolate chip components . (And all are easily pronounced)
  5. Tastes like heaven.

Apparently, it is cheap makeup day in veganland.

UrbanDecay.com is having a friends and family sale, where you may receive a 30% off discount with the coupon code: FFL30. Tote-ally cute!

There is nothing I love more than just throwing everything I could ever possibly
need in one big bag and running out the door to face my day. Fruit, a
book, my ipod, a small child.. you name it, it goes in my tote. Vegan totes
are easy finds since they are typically made out of cloth or canvas anyway.
Here are some cute totes I have recently found that have struck my fancy.

I couldn’t help it, this bag makes me giggle.

Restaurant Review: Red Bamboo, NYC

menu

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this self proclaimed “soul café” in the heart of the West Village. Red Bamboo is a vegetarian establishment with the majority of the menu being vegan. (Thankfully, all desserts are vegan.)

When we first entered, the whole place smelled like bug spray or some other kind of strong chemical. That made me weary, but the smell seemed to fade quickly.

I liked how the non-vegan menu items were clearly marked, and casein and whey were taken into consideration. You would be surprised how many restaurants serve soy cheese containing casein as “vegan”. I noticed they seemed to specialize in mock meat and although I don’t particularly fancy it, I decided to live on the edge. (more…)

If you are so inclined, while you are shopping, you may pick up a pair of these for me. Thanks!
