2011 is in full effect and the big question is: How will you make this year better than it’s ancestors? Let’s break free from an enormous list of vague resolutions this year and concentrate on specific behavioral changes, huge goals and everyday magic! Here are some magnificent tips that have worked for me in changing my life for the better.
Do One Thing At A Time
It is hard to escape old habits or destructive patterns of thinking, and trying to conquer it all at one time is virtually impossible! Make a list of all the goals you want to reach and habits you want to change this year. List them from the most to least important, then attack and achieve one goal at a time. Your sanity will thank you.
Set Goals on a Regular Basis
Every month, go back and re-evaluate your list of goals. Add new stuff, take out things you aren’t interested in anymore, or re-arrange the list. You will find that your list grows and changes with you, and that is fine!
Be Specific
Be as specific as possible when setting goals. Instead of vowing to “exercise more”, create a workout plan or at least schedule gym time into your week on specific days. An aspiration becomes real with the detail and planning put into it.
Eat More Veggies
Especially leafy green veggies. Try to pack as many veggies into your day as possible and cut out processed foods, even if only minimally processed. You will feel amazing!
Live Mindfully
Before you do anything, stop and think. How is this affecting you and others around you? Stop thinking about your past and worrying about the future. Be right here, right now!
Love Yourself
Embrace your imperfections and perfections. Kiss your reflection. Write a love letter to yourself. These things may sound ridiculous, but being truly comfortable with who you are is probably one of the hardest things to do. Love yourself and the world will love you in return.
Learn New Stuff
Take up a new and exciting hobby. Take a class, meet new people and have fun. Do something you have always wanted to do. Learn a new language. Take a trapeze class! A comfortable life is boring, do something new!
Get Moving
It is absolutely vital to get up and move every single day for at least 30 minutes. Even if you just walk around the block or around the mall – get those limbs swinging! You will be happier, healthier and less stressed.
Do Something Crazy
Once in a while, do something completely out of character. If you are typically an introverted home-body, go out and party one night! If you are frightened of public speaking – give a speech! It is important to get far out of your comfort zone from time to time.
Look At The Big Picture
It’s so easy to nit pick and worry about the things that are going wrong in our lives. Take a step back and objectively look at your life as a whole. If things are still looking bad from that angle, ask yourself “what can I do right now to make my life better?”. The answer should come easy and a solution, even easier.
Get Up Earlier
Even 15 minutes can make a huge difference in your whole entire day. You may not be a morning person, but being able to take your time in the morning and not rush around will be more than worth it!
Happy 2011, My Lovelies! Now, go get ’em!
