This year will undoubtedly be the largest Earth Day celebration ever. As the concern for the well-being of our precious planet spreads, more people are embracing the idea of Earth Day, every day. For those of you who don’t take the time out to make your contribution to the effort to save the world from degradation, and environmental collapse – It’s never too late to start! Small lifestyle changes can make a seriously huge impact on your ecological footprint. It is all just a matter of changing some habits. You can do it!
How to love mommy earth every day
Go vegan – Choosing to eat only plant based products is the best thing you can do for the earth. Factory and dairy farming practices cause insane amounts of environmental degradation. Go veg today and save lives and the Earth!
Shop vintage – The most eco-friendly (and fun) shopping is vintage! It takes tons of energy, effort and materials to create new products. You can cut all of that out by simply buying used items. Buying used does not mean your purchase will be old, weathered, and smelly. In today’s “buy and toss” society, you can find some really spectacular items on Craigslist, Ebay, or at your local vintage/consignment shop. And, really, who doesn’t enjoy the thrill of the hunt?
Shop Local – When you shop local you cut out the energy used to transport those items. You also support your local economy and give your money directly to farmers and artists. It might cost you slightly more money, but in the long run you and your community will be thriving. (FYI .. Portland is HUGE on buying local and is almost completely self-sustained. Sorry to brag!)
Drive less (or not at all) – Public transportation may seem daunting at first glance, but it is generally very easy to use and convenient. If you live in a town where the public transit leaves something to be desired, get a bike or try to walk to nearby places. You will get in better shape, explore your town in a new way, AND save the Earth. Everyone wins!
Waste less – Think of new and exciting ways to use your trash, or not accumulate it in the first place. Buy a composter and experience the joys of turning food to soil. Purchase food and household products in bulk and bring your own containers. Cook at home more and avoid takeout. Use empty cans and bottles as plant pots. The possibilities are endless!
