Oatmeal Vegan style is a healthy way to fill up in the morning. Avoid the boxed oatmeal filled with brown sugar and grab a package of Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Old Fashioned Rolled Oats. More and more conventional grocery store chains are selling healthier foods like this. You can also check your local health food store. If you don’t see it, ask the store manager to stock it.
When I first became vegan, I was trying to think of what I can eat for breakfast. As I was learning about fresh foods I remember thinking, “Can I eat oats raw?” I tried it with rice milk then almond milk and loved it. I’ve been eating these oats every morning for almost five years. I suggest adding goji berries and organic raisins and making homemade almond milk if you like it cold to avoid the oils that are in store bought almond/rice milk or cooking the oatmeal for a hot breakfast.
It’s really easy and quick to cook the oats.
Here’s my recipe:
- ½ cup Oats in a small pot
- Pour ½+ cup water onto oats
- Add a handful of organic raisins to oats and water
- Dash of cinnamon
- Heat on Med-High for 1-2 minutes stirring as it heats up
- Pour into a bowl and enjoy
- Optional: add several teaspoons of chia seeds and two teaspoons of agave as a sweetener
As you read the ingredients on this package it only lists one item, Whole Grain Oats. Reading the ingredients of everything was one of the biggest eye-opening experiences I had and I find it fun and exciting to try new foods and create my own vegan versions of everyday conventional foods.
P.S. Grind these oats in a blender and you have a healthy Flour to bake with!
