Look, Chic Veganistas and Veganistos, I am composing my first review for you! Are you so psyched and proud that you cannot sit still? I know the feeling because I feel it, too! I cannot wait to share it with you. Before I begin, though, I have to start with a few disclaimers. While I was given these products for free, I am not paid to write this review and in no way do the folks at Good Green Bars know what the heck I’m going to say about their products.
They also did not know about something very important that I purposefully neglected to share with them: I am very sensitive. Wait, wait, folks, you are thinking that I am talking about emotionally. That is not relevant to the review—I mean, yes, I cry a lot—little things mean a lot to me; I was an English major and I am artist, so the sensitive thing is not a surprise to anyone. No, I mean, physically, I am sensitive. My stomach hurts if you look at me in a mean way or if you give me things that have too many flavors going on at the same time. My teeth do not like sugar or crunchy things—no, I do not have cavities; I am just sensitive, okay. Stop it. You are hurting my feelings, stomach, and my teeth.
Back to Business:
When I was approached to try out samples of Good Green vegan bars, I just said, “Sure,” because I am sensitive and thought it would be amusing to try a vegan bar. It had been a while. The nice people over at Good Green Bars did not know that. Overall, the experience was actually a refreshing change. Their bars were different from what I have encountered thus far on the market. For the most part, their ingredient lists were relatively short and natural.
Taste Test
I do have my favorites that I will list below, but lo and behold, I was actually able to eat an entire bar of each flavor, which is unheard of in my life thus far. The flavors were not overpowering but they did not taste the same, which is a relief. I was also relieved that they even had flavors and did not taste like: a) sawdust, b) sugar or c) cardboard with surprising bits of fruits.
I was finally glad I did not risk breaking my teeth while eating these bars, either. Somehow, every bar had a balance of being easy to chew while having some, very little, bits of fruits or nuts. The bars had an almost Play-D’oh consistency. I do not mean that in a gross way. Try eating these with kids. It is so much fun. They are not brick-like bars you have to chew while flinching. They do not leave crumbs all over the place. You can split them up easily. Over Fourth of July (Happy Fourth of July, much belated, by the way!), I watched my friend’s four year old play video games while single handedly splitting one with her sister.
You can text, watch television, read, and still eat these bars without choking or making a mess. I appreciate that in a vegan bar. I will warn you that they melt, but it is chocolate and it is a blisteringly hot summer, so this is not a shocking thing, I suppose.
Here are my favorite flavors:
1) Chocolate Peanut Butter: chewy goodness
2) Chocolate Raspberry: so good clash of sweetness and chocolate
3) Wildberry: straight up berries
4) Chocolate Coconut: this is the Vegan version of a Mounds bar
