One of the biggest culinary days of the year is almost here. Thanksgiving. If you’re an eater, this is the best day ever. If you’re the cook, this might be one of your craziest days in the kitchen. You have to plan, buy, prep, create, and serve a meal to a small crowd and hope to please everyone with at least one dish. It can be daunting and exhausting.
Which is why Crisp is here to help! Crisp makes a whole line of tools to help make eating healthy, and preparing for a Thanksgiving day feast, simple, fun, and even a little elegant. I got the chance to review a few of their popular prepping tools to see how Crisp can make cooking in the kitchen easier and creative.
Zester: This was probably one of my favorite tools that I got to try and that’s because it is so much more than just a zester. I have a zester and it is definitely a unitasker. It’s a good zester, but that is all it does. The Crisp zester has four different uses. It has two zesting blades, a scoring blade, and a channel knife. I had no idea that I needed a channel knife but it makes scoring and slicing fruit so easy. I also love that it has a microplane as well as the traditional zesting blade so that I could get the exact amount of zest that I wanted. This tool also makes it really easy to create pretty garnishes for your pies, tarts, cocktail, or anything else you can think to dress up. No more one trick ponies when it comes to zesters, because this is an all in one tool.
Straight Paring Knife: I have a full set of knives that I really love, and they do anything that I need, so I wasn’t sure if this knife would stand out. I was pleasantly surprised when I started to cut and chop vegetables for dinner. It easily cut through potatoes, broccoli, beets, and garlic and made the job really simple. I love that the cover has a sharpening tool right on the side so I don’t have to go digging through my draw to find my other sharpener. I also like the cover in general. Many times single knives like this sit in the draw without any protection and become a hazard any time you reach your hand inside. The cover is a little stiff and you do have to be careful when you remove and replace your knife, but it does start to loosen up over time. Overall, this was a really good knife and helped make my dinner prep go smoothly.
Cherry Pitter: For the life of me, I could not find any fresh cherries that needed to be pitted so I could give this cherry pitter a try. But I found the next best thing: olives. My grocery store had fresh olives on sale, so I picked some up and thought why not give it a shot. It actually worked really well and saved me a lot of time. I love that there is a cup on the bottom that collects the pits so they don’t go shooting across the counter and it was kind of fun to pit the olives with the push of the plunger. If you’re making cherry pie or want to set out an olive platter at your next get together, you will want this pitter!
I was really pleased with all of the things that I got to try from Crisp and they really do have the tools for healthy eating and simple prep and there are so many other tools that can make your holiday cooking a breeze.
