I’ve worked on and off in the beauty industry as a professional make up artist for almost 15 years, and no matter what the age of my client, I always advise that it’s never too early (or too late) to start using a good eye cream. The skin around the eye area is more delicate than the skin on the face, requiring special nurturing and nourishment. After all, they say the eyes are the windows to the soul, so why wouldn’t we want to tend to them with extra loving care? The eye area is also one of the first places on the face that shows the visible signs of aging, and as I recently entered into my late 30s, I’ve noticed that my skin care needs are definitely changing. Much to my dismay, those dreaded “crow’s feet” are becoming more and more noticeable. While a plant based diet can do wonders for the skin by helping to keep it soft, supple, and glowing, those pesky fine lines need a little extra attention. I’ve absolutely sworn off botox, or any other invasive procedure, so needless to say, I’ve been on the hunt for a well performing eye cream. I have been busily researching cruelty-free brands that have strong reviews and proven results, but at a price point that won’t break the bank. I’ve tried several different products, but have yet to find my “dream cream,” so when Nurture My Body contacted Chic Vegan about doing a product review, I jumped at the chance to be the lucky reviewer. My product of choice? Eye cream, of course!
Nurture My Body was created in 2006 by Patty Kerr, a long time beauty industry maven, whose passion is to provide the “safest and most natural personal care products that reflect the unique beauty in all of us, while maintaining our stewardship with the Earth.” Nurture My Body offers small-batch, handmade beauty products that are “infused with love” and made with wildcrafted certified organic ingredients, cruelty-free (Leaping Bunny & PETA Certified), phthalate-free, vegan friendly with gluten free options, and packaged in eco-friendly glass or BPA-free plastic bottles. You will never find pesticides, synthetic preservatives, petroleum, parabens, sulphates, phthalates, artificial fragrances/colors, or GMOs in any of their products. Even better, their products have a rating of 0-1 on the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep Database, meaning these products are non-toxic and safe for consumer use. After all, our skin is our largest organ, and it is just as important to be conscious about what we put on it, as we are about what we put in it.
After learning more about Nurture Your Body, I was very excited to give their products a try. I love a company with a lot of heart and integrity, and it’s clear that this company has both. A few weeks ago, I received a jar of the Fragrance Free Eye Cream, and have since integrated it into my morning beauty routine, and it has become a fast favorite in my regimen.
Claims: “Our organic Eye Cream perks up aging eyes with organic shea butter, aloe vera and eyebright. Our rich botanical blend rejuvenates and improves the tone and firmness of delicate skin around eyes which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Our Organic Eye Cream naturally aids in restoring softness with its 18 certified organic ingredients. Excellent for dry and mature skin.”
Active Ingredients and Benefits: Eyebright calms irritated eyes and reduces puffiness. Lavender and red clover are anti-inflammatory. Comfrey root stimulates cell proliferation. Aloe vera gel is an anti-aging agent and regenerates damaged tissue. Seaweed extract helps improve the skin’s elasticity and hydration. Avocado oil is known to reduce age spots and scars, as well as soften skin. Jojoba oil restores pH balance and helps to maintain suppleness. Essential oils from lavender, carrot seed, rosemary, sage, and more, provide antioxidants.
Pros: Organic ingredients, cruelty-free, and vegan. Vitamin rich and formulated with botanical infusions, extracts and oils. The fragrance free formula is extra gentle & non irritating for sensitive eyes. Instantly brightens, hydrates, and perks up the eye area. Works well under makeup. The price point is comparable to similar products on the market, and as a little goes a long way, it is a good buy at $37.
Cons: While wonderful for soothing & hydrating, the shea butter and aloe give the cream a balmy texture. Allow for absorption time before applying makeup.
Verdict: For an “everyday” eye cream, I think this is a wonderful product. I noticed an immediate difference in the look & feel of my eye area. The cream instantly lifted fine lines and reduced puffiness, and my eye area feels firmer, more nourished and hydrated. It worked beautifully under makeup, and created a smooth base for my concealor. The surge of hydration instantly plumps the eye area & reduces the appearance of fine lines, but as I have only been testing this product for a few weeks, I have yet to determine if this product will provide the long term anti-aging benefits that I am seeking. I have very high hopes for this product!
After using this eye cream, I am definitely interested in trying more of their products, and give them a confident “Vegenista” stamp of approval. If you are in the market for a high quality, cruelty-free, organic, and affordable skincare line, look no further than Nurture My Body.
